CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
Joe Carliner is a forward-thinking ambitious executive who combines his strong analytical skills and real-world mindset to drive ideal results for companies and their investors. He has successfully leveraged these skills to produce exceptional results on Wall Street, in venture-growth finance and in sales. Joe is now the Chief Financial Officer for Blue Lagoon Advisors.
Before joining Blue Lagoon, he was at Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud company trusted by organizations worldwide to run their mission critical applications, where he held several positions with diverse responsibilities. From 2010 through 2016, Joe led the Global Financial Planning & Analysis function. In this role, he teamed with leaders from all areas of the organization to drive analytical and financial thinking. In addition, Joe was responsible for sales and senior management financial reporting and was very involved in the company’s M&A activities.
In 2015, Joe worked closely with the CEO and CFO of Virtustream on the sale of the company. Rather than hire an investment banker, the team leveraged their own analytical skills, industry relationships and business acumen to drive a $1.2 billion sale to EMC. Joe was one of the key individuals responsible for interfacing with the EMC diligence team, working closely with the CEO, CFO and outside legal counsel.
After the EMC acquisition, Joe made the decision to broaden his experience and became the Global Director of Business Development of Specialty Sales. In this role, Joe was responsible for selling Virtustream’s xStream Cloud Management Platform (CMP) and Viewtrust, the company’s Continuous Monitoring as a Service (CMaaS) software, in addition to other new product offerings. Joe challenged the existing sales model, developing new constructs for selling Virtustream’s software, and, in his first year in a sales position, closed over $40m of business with customers across five continents. Joe received numerous awards, including “Rookie of the Year” and entrance into the Dell President’s Club, for his outstanding performance.
Prior to Virtustream, Joe was an analyst at Lazard Freres & Co. in their Healthcare M&A group. It was at Lazard that Joe developed his extraordinary work ethic and the extensive expertise in financial modeling that is a hallmark of his work today. He was a key member of deal teams that closed multi-billion dollar transactions during his tenure.
Joe attended the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, where he received a Bachelor’s in Business Administration, graduating with High Distinction and a 4.0 GPA.
