CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Mike Provenzano is a high caliber, results oriented professional known in the technology industry for his ability to repeatedly create and deliver significant shareholder value and provide pragmatic solutions to complex business issues. He gained this reputation over his 25+ years of high-tech and software executive experience providing strategic, financial and operational leadership to both public and private companies at various stages of their development. He is now the Chief Operating Officer for Blue Lagoon Advisors.
Before joining Blue Lagoon, Mike was an executive business and finance consultant assisting venture backed portfolio company management teams with their strategic planning, budgeting and cash flow modeling. In addition, he also conducted due diligence and investment analysis of potential investments for a venture capital fund.
Prior to this, Mike was the Chief Financial Officer of Virtustream, the enterprise-class cloud company trusted by organizations worldwide to run their mission-critical applications. Mike had global responsibility for the Finance & Administration, Data Center Operations, Security, Legal, Human Resources, IT & Facilities for the firm and managed significant revenue growth over a three plus year period.
During his tenure at Virtustream, Mike negotiated several strategic alliances/relationship agreements (IBM, Cisco, SAP, EMC) and various customer contracts in excess of $10+m total contract value each. He also negotiated and executed various equity & debt financings in order to optimize capital structure of the Company while minimizing shareholder dilution, executed and led acquisition and integration of a Security software company for Governance, Risk and Compliance, and supported international expansion into new markets of Germany, Switzerland, France, Lithuania, Bulgaria and Dubai.
Mike then partnered with the CEO of Virtustream to formulate and execute the company’s exit strategy leading to the $1.2 Billion acquisition by EMC in July 2015, resulting in the realization of over $1.0 Billion of shareholder value. With the acquisition by EMC, Mike successfully led all aspects of the EMC acquisition efforts, including deal negotiations and due diligence activities.
Prior to Virtustream, Mike was the Executive Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer at Aspect Software, a $600+ million formerly publicly held global enterprise software company operating in 20+ countries and focused on contact center and unified communications and collaboration solutions. He had principal responsibility for Finance, Operations and Human Resources. In this role, Mike provided strategic financial direction for the company and oversaw all accounting, financial planning, budgeting, treasury, facilities and risk management activities. He also played an instrumental role in the company’s corporate strategy including its mergers and acquisitions activities. Under Mike’s direction, Aspect Software successfully merged with or acquired 12 companies with purchase price consideration of more than $1.3 Billion. Mike also led the financing of more than $3 Billion through various credit facilities including revolving lines of credit, bank term loans and high yield bonds with 144A Registration Rights.
Prior to Aspect Software, he acquired a strong finance and accounting background at Arthur Andersen LLP as an experienced audit manager in the High Technology practice which included high technology, software, ecommerce, data networking, telecommunications, manufacturing, retail and professional services. Mike also assisted clients in Initial and Secondary Public Offerings, preparation and review of SEC reporting filings Form 10-K’s and 10-Q’s, S-8’s, etc. in accordance with the S-X regulations, and acquisitions and due diligence activities.
Mike has consistently received recognition for his work including being named 2015 CFO of Year Honoree by North Virginia Technology Council, 2015 Top Tech CFO by Bisnow, 2009 CFO of the Year Honoree for large privately held companies by Boston Business Journal and, in 2005, he was named a “40 Under 40” business leader to watch in the Greater Boston region by the Boston Business Journal. Mike is a recognized thought leader who has been included in high profile publications such as CFO Magazine, the Boston Business Journal as well as various other international press and media outlets, including an appearance on Bloomberg Asia TV.
Mike is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants. He graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Merrimack College in North Andover, Massachusetts.
